Synopsis

In 1630, a farmer relocates his family to a remote plot of land on the edge of a forest where strange, unsettling things happen. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, each family member's faith, loyalty and love are tested in shocking ways.

This movie isn’t scary, at all. I was really excited to be totally terrified as I had heard this was one of the top scariest movies, but it completely fell flat. The baby’s slaughter was a beautiful set up for the film as it gave the perfect amount of creepy ness and gore without actually showing the death of the baby. However, this subtly grows boring a tiresome, especially when the most twisted part happens in the first half of the movie. The ending felt forced, like they realized at the very end that subtlety couldn’t conclude the story so they tried to throw a bunch of shit at the viewer in hopes it would freak them out. Without the horror elements flowing all the way through the film it was boring and, dare I say, repetitive. Don’t get me wrong, are some great and unique shots that provide a sort of uncomfortable beauty to the film, but it doesn’t provide enough visual interest for this to have been a good movie.
